The human–animal bond
Vivian's lens finds the moments that matter most — a hand resting on a muzzle, a dog leaning into a familiar lap, a cat surveying the world from a trusted companion's table. These images remind us that well-being flows in both directions: animals thrive when they are truly seen, and we are made whole by the act of caring for them.
Portraits of character
Every animal carries a personality as rich and distinct as any human's. Vivian's portraits reveal the dignity in a donkey's smile, the knowing gaze of an old dog, the regal bearing of a rooster at dawn. By photographing animals with the same care we give to human portraiture, she affirms their emotional lives and intrinsic worth — a philosophy at the heart of companion well-being.
Life on the ranch
Farms and ranches are where the human–animal partnership is most visible — and most vital. From longhorn herds silhouetted against Texas skies to baby goats finding their footing, these photographs celebrate the daily rhythms of care that sustain both land and creature. Companions everywhere
The animal–human connection doesn't end at the fence line. Vivian finds it on cobblestone streets abroad, in city neighborhoods, and wherever people and animals share space. These images remind us that the need for companionship is universal — and that attending to animal well-being enriches every community, every culture, every life it touches.
About the photographer
Vivian Arcidiacono
Vivian began a career as a portrait photographer in Australia, eventually moving to Texas in 1992. Today, because of her iconic images of longhorn, people fondly refer to her as the "cow photographer." She loves taking portraits of animals. Clients contact her to take images of their farms, ranches, longhorn, horses, and special pets.
She is an avid supporter of Habitat for Horses, a non-profit equine protection agency committed to the prevention, rescue, and rehabilitation of neglected, abused, and homeless equine.
Vivian holds an MA in Liberal Studies from Rice University (2012) and a BA in Commercial Design from Texas Christian University (1982). She is a regular student at the Glasscock School course "Advanced Photography Workshop with Peter Brown."
